BACP Accreditation

BACP Accredited Counsellors have undergone a rigorous training and development programme and have significant experience of working with clients

To gain Accreditation from the BACP Counsellors need to demonstrate their capability for independent, competent and ethical practice. This means that they have to :

Complete an approved training course (minimum two years)
Complete at least 450 hours of supervised counselling work
Undergo personal therapy or a similar activity to enhance self-awareness
Submit an extensive piece of written work which demonstrates the theoretical basis for their counselling work, an in depth description of their method of working with clients and their commitment to the Ethical Framework
Get written references from two current members of the BACP or equivalent organisation
Ensure that their practice is covered by insurance and an adequate contract for supervision
Continue their professional development after Accreditation via training courses, seminars etc
Submit an annual request for renewal of their Accreditation with evidence of meeting requirements for supervision, professional development etc
