The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) is a membership organisation and a registered charity that sets standards for therapeutic practice and provides information for therapists, clients of therapy, and the general public. You can find more details here.
I am an Accredited Member of the BACP and adhere to their Ethical Framework which can be found here.
To summarise, these are the guiding principles from the Framework which I use to guide my counselling work:
Fidelity: I will honour the trust you place in me
Autonomy: I will respect your right to be self-governing
Beneficence: I am committed to promoting your well-being
Non-Maleficence: I am committed to avoiding harm to you
Justice: I will be fair and impartial in my treatment of all of my clients and provide adequate services
Self-Respect: I will advance my own self-awareness and professional knowledge and care for myself in order to provide the best service to you
